Celebration of Community

I attended a Celebration of Community tonight on behalf of S.A.B.A. held by the Six:Eight Community of Faith. I greatly appreciated the invitation and enjoyed the event. Six:Eight has been a tremendous asset in providing volunteers for SABA events for couple years now. I did not know what to expect, but that associa...ted nervousness vanished immediately at first greeting. I felt very welcome and enjoyed the event very much. I received a snap shot into the Community of Faith, and learned about all the groups in the community that they have also been providing volunteer assistance. Thank you members of 6:8, Stef Austinat, and of course Pastor Jason Guynes. |

Last year we held our first neighbor 5k. For a first time trying such an event, it was quite a reasonable success. This year, we want to make the event even bigger and better. Like last year, the event will be held on a Sunday and will make use of the SEPTA bus route, since the local bus does not run on Sundays. Of course, bigger and better also means we need volunteers. On the day of the event, we will need people to be safety marshals, to help with registration, etc. For now, we need you help with planning and organizing the event. We need the most help with contacting potential sponsors. Sponsorship levels are very reasonable. For only $75 a company can have its logo displayed on the race t-shirt. For a mere $25 you, your family, or a company can have a single line listing on the shirt. Please have all interested sponsors contact me at wingardner@earthlink.net. Please also consider helping with some of the tasks for preparing this event. |

As many of you may have noticed, the house at Normandy Park was recently painted and it looks fantastic. First, I want to thank Steve Fischer for all of his work with coordinating this project including selecting a color that is both historic and truly fitting of the rustic, botanical feel we have wanted for the park. I would also like to thank Eric Gillard of the township Parks and Rec Department for seeing this project through and Nolan Painting for their help with the color selection and for the great job they did with painting the house. |

This is Freedom Playground's Build Week, and they need a lot of volunteers! You can sign up on the website, or go there if you have an hour or two to spare. Childcare is available in one of the cottages in the Quadrangle. They especially need a.m. and p.m.volunteers during the week. All kinds of jobs available. Donations welcomed. I helped put up signs on Prep Day on Monday. Was there today during Day 2 of Build Week. Had fun stacking 2x4's, then staining them. They are selling T-shirts for $15, tiles for a hand print for $15, pickets and pavers. Come out and help! |
Music and Planting at Normandy Park - Oct 4
Submitted by The Gardner 4 on Thu, 09/24/2009 - 12:14am Tags:|
This year's fall Music and Planting Event at Normandy Park is scheduled for Oct 4, starting at 9:00 am. The focus for the planting will be on enhancing the current garden beds around the periphery of the park and around the house, removing some sections of the hedge, and beginning to establish some new beds that will be planted in the spring. The sections of hedge that will have some portions removed this year will be along Cricket Ave and Normandy Rd. This is to further improve the appearance of the park and to open more entry points, especially considering the SABA 5k is happening the following weekend and will attract people from inside and outside our neighborhood. |

This is the fall event for planting and further beautifying Normandy Park. We are fortunate to have many talented musicians in our neighborhood. This year Scot Sax and Sharon Little will provide the musical entertainment. Other performers might join them and will be announced as they confirm their availability. Please bring whatever plants you wish to donate to the park. This is a great time of year to thin those spring bulbs and summer bloomers. This fall planting event helps the park look a little better now but the real effect is seen in the spring when the new plantings sprout, bloom and bring a splash of colors. We will also begin to develop our plans for the spring planting and the next phase of park improvements. So, come out with you plants, tools, enthusiasm, and ideas and join us as we have a good time making improvements to our little neighborhood gem. |
