Volunteer gardeners needed for Normandy Park

Tags:

Hello Neighbors,

Our flower beds at Normandy Park are looking neglected, and we would like to spruce them up for our SABA 5K (Sunday,Oct.23rd).

There are many ways to help:

1) Fall Clean Up on Saturday, Oct. 15th from 10:00-12:00 (if not raining). Bring your shovels and gardening gloves and help us pull weeds.

2) Volunteer to "Adopt a Spot"--it can be a small or big section to maintain throughout the year. Just drop Emi Lievano an email at emiliacl@mindspring.com so that she can keep track of the areas.

3) Pull a weed or two--as you walk by or play at the park.

4) Volunteer to coordinate a garden clean-up/planting with a group of friends and neighbors. This would be good for a boy or girl scout troop activity.

Your help will keep our neighborhood looking beautiful!

We can't do it without you!

Thank You, 4th of July Volunteers

Tags:

Many thanks to all you, wonderful neighbors and friends, for making this 4th of July event a fun time for our children.

And many thanks to the members of the HAC (Haverford Athletic Club) for organizing the field games and for their generosity of left-over food/drinks.

I hope that many of you can help us next year, either helping behind the scenes, loaning us needed items, or assisting in the various activities that day.

Neighbors getting together to help out and enjoy the various events/activities are what make this neighborhood a great place to live.

On Monday, July 4th, we’ll be holding our annual South Ardmore Independence Day celebration! Bring your children, nieces, nephews, grandkids, and of course, your neighbors. Our event begins with a parade of bikes, strollers and wagons decked out in red, white and blue, leaving from Chestnutwold Elementary at 10am. We will wind our way through the neighborhood and end up in Elwell Field, where kids can participate in field events, compete in the “best-decorated” contest, and get their faces painted. There is no rain date for this event. If the weather is questionable, please check our website to verify whether we will proceed.

Note that WE DESPERATELY NEED VOLUNTEERS in order for this event to succeed.

If you plan to attend, please consider helping out, even if it’s just for an hour. Or let us know if you can be in a leadership role.

Not going to be around? Perhaps you can do something to help us prep.

You can also contribute something to our SABA Bake Sale Table.

Summer at the Ardmore Food Pantry

Tags:

This summer has been busy at the Ardmore Food Pantry. In June we fed 226 family members, July's total jumped to 574, not to be outdone August finished with serving 780 families!! So we are VERY appreciative of donations - food and cash -while always looking for assistance. A big thank you to all volunteers for a GREAT job during these HOT months - we all know how hot the kitchen can get! Whether helping to pack food, stock shelves, pick & wash produce, care for the gardens or donating, you are really appreciated!!!! Also a special thank to Oakmont Farmers market vendors; Lindenhof farms for donating fresh eggs & frozen meats, & Lime Valley Farm for the yummy organic produce.

Ardmore Food Pantry--Neighbor Helping Neighbor

Tags:

The Ardmore Food Pantry began as the St. Mary's Episcopal Church emergency food cupboard. As a result of the weakening economy, there was more demand, and the Ardmore Food Pantry officially opened on 10/5/09. It is located in St. Mary's parish hall (36 Ardmore Ave.) and staffed by community volunteers.

Contact ArdmoreFoodPantry@verizon.net or 610-649-1845.

Hours of operation are Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30-11:30 am, and Thursdays from 6-8 pm.

5 easy things you can do...
1) Donate canned and boxed food items (check expiration dates--no expired items).
2) Contribute to the Spare Change Spares Hunger Initiative.
3) Organize a food drive.
4) Volunteer your time to distribute food.
5) Use GoodSearch.com to search the web and designate the Ardmore Food Pantry as your charitable organization.

This is Freedom Playground's Build Week, and they need a lot of volunteers!

You can sign up on the website, or go there if you have an hour or two to spare. Childcare is available in one of the cottages in the Quadrangle. They especially need a.m. and p.m.volunteers during the week. All kinds of jobs available. Donations welcomed.

I helped put up signs on Prep Day on Monday. Was there today during Day 2 of Build Week. Had fun stacking 2x4's, then staining them.

They are selling T-shirts for $15, tiles for a hand print for $15, pickets and pavers.

Come out and help!

SABA Volunteers

Tags:

As you know, SABA survives and thrives on the generosity of neighbors who volunteer their time and energy. These volunteers have created and continued our many local traditions. Without them, our neighborhood would not be the wonderful place to live that it is. Unfortunately, over the past year, we have lost a number of important volunteers and we are need of finding their replacements. These positions include:

President
Civic Council Liaison
Newsletter Coordinator (and someone to arrange the layout for printing)
Block Captains
Event coordinators and volunteers
We might also me losing our Treasurer
