Thank You, 4th of July Volunteers

Tags:

Many thanks to all you, wonderful neighbors and friends, for making this 4th of July event a fun time for our children.

And many thanks to the members of the HAC (Haverford Athletic Club) for organizing the field games and for their generosity of left-over food/drinks.

I hope that many of you can help us next year, either helping behind the scenes, loaning us needed items, or assisting in the various activities that day.

Neighbors getting together to help out and enjoy the various events/activities are what make this neighborhood a great place to live.

Once again, SABA will be coordinating a neighborhood-wide yard sale. This year, we will have the yard sale on Saturday, May 29. This is the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. The rain date will be Sunday, May 30.

The Beechwood Civic Association has held their yard sale on this day for many years and it attracts MANY customers. In fact, it has become such a tradition in their neighborhood they don't even have to advertise the event and people know to show up. We hope to piggyback on the excitement and enthusiasm of their event to make our yard sale particularly successful.

Spring Planting and Art in the Park

We have selected Saturday, May 8 for this year's spring planting. This is one of our two most substantial events for further improving the landscaping and beauty of Normandy Park. I think the spring planting ends up feeling more fulfilling because you can watch the fruits of your effort grow and blossom throughout the rest of the outdoor season into the fall.

As in the past, the success of this and the beauty of the park depends on you. We need your volunteer effort for planting all the new additions to the park. Also. most everything we plant comes as a donation from neighbors. So, please take a look around your yard to see what plants are ready for thinning or you have decided to replace with something new. Then, don't simply discard those old plants. Bring them to Normandy Park on May 8 to make your own, personal contribution to this pocket park that has been such a centerpiece for the community.

Luminaria Night

Tags:

Hi everyone,

This Saturday, our neighborhood judges will be out taking a look at all the house decorations. They will select the 3 best decorated houses in the neighborhood. If you are interested in helping with the judging, please contact me.

This Sunday evening, 12/20, is the night for this year's Luminaria Night. We have luminaria bags and candles available for purchase. A set of 10 bags and 10 candles is only $5 and create a beautiful glow for your house. The sets are available at Diane Wilder's house at 807 Aubrey. There is a chest on her front porch so you do not need to call ahead. Simply leave a check for $5 made out to SABA in the envelope in the chest when you pick up your supplies.

Also, the Luminaria Night Celebration is this Sunday at Normandy Park from 5:00 to 7:30. Please come join your neighbors for a little holiday cheer, caroling, and more luminaria as we celebrate the season and the winter solstice. Please contact me if you are interested in volunteering for this event. We will announce the winners of the House Decoration Contest at the Luminaria Night Celebration

Hope to see you there as we all enjoy our neighborhood-wide celebration of light on one of the shortest days of the year.

Spruce Up Normandy Park

Let's all meet at Normandy Park to spruce up the landscaping.

We will start at 9:00 but there is no firm ending time - whenever the work is done or we are done all we can.

Some of the garden beds and hedges have become over grown and weeds are crowding out some of the beautiful plants that have been donated and planted by neighborhood volunteers. We will work on pulling weeds, trimming the hedges, removing some sections of hedge, etc. to bring out the beauty of the park. This will also help prepare the park for our fall Music and Planting event and for our first 5k run/1 mile walk which will be held this fall starting and ending at Normandy Park. Bring any garden tools you have that can be shared. Every little bit of effort counts so stop by if it is just for a little while.

See you at the park.
