Once again, SABA will be coordinating a neighborhood-wide yard sale. This year, we will have the yard sale on Saturday, May 29. This is the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. The rain date will be Sunday, May 30. The Beechwood Civic Association has held their yard sale on this day for many years and it attracts MANY customers. In fact, it has become such a tradition in their neighborhood they don't even have to advertise the event and people know to show up. We hope to piggyback on the excitement and enthusiasm of their event to make our yard sale particularly successful. |

We have selected Saturday, May 8 for this year's spring planting. This is one of our two most substantial events for further improving the landscaping and beauty of Normandy Park. I think the spring planting ends up feeling more fulfilling because you can watch the fruits of your effort grow and blossom throughout the rest of the outdoor season into the fall. As in the past, the success of this and the beauty of the park depends on you. We need your volunteer effort for planting all the new additions to the park. Also. most everything we plant comes as a donation from neighbors. So, please take a look around your yard to see what plants are ready for thinning or you have decided to replace with something new. Then, don't simply discard those old plants. Bring them to Normandy Park on May 8 to make your own, personal contribution to this pocket park that has been such a centerpiece for the community. |

Spruce Up Normandy Park

Let's all meet at Normandy Park to spruce up the landscaping. We will start at 9:00 but there is no firm ending time - whenever the work is done or we are done all we can. Some of the garden beds and hedges have become over grown and weeds are crowding out some of the beautiful plants that have been donated and planted by neighborhood volunteers. We will work on pulling weeds, trimming the hedges, removing some sections of hedge, etc. to bring out the beauty of the park. This will also help prepare the park for our fall Music and Planting event and for our first 5k run/1 mile walk which will be held this fall starting and ending at Normandy Park. Bring any garden tools you have that can be shared. Every little bit of effort counts so stop by if it is just for a little while. See you at the park. |

This Saturday we will be having our annual 4th of July Celebration at Elwell Field. This is our neighborhood's longest running tradition and the biggest event of the year. As always, the event will kick off with a parade of the neighborhood children who have decorated their bikes, scooters, themselves, etc. The parade leaves from Chestnutwold Elementary at 10:00 and works its way up Morris Road to Elwell Field. All children are welcome to participate and everyone is encouraged to line the street to cheer them on. Once at the park, we will have the decoration contest. Winners get a new bike helmet or tickets for the event activities. Then it is on to the field events (3-legged race, sack race, 50-yard dash, etc.) There will be events for all age groups so start stretching and get your running shoes ready. Throughout the day, there will be food, the dunk tank (a perennial favorite), music and more so come out to have a fun time. |
