Are you gardening this summer?

My name is Rob Buscaglia. I have initiated a program called Garden Share that I'd like to tell you about. Garden Share is a program designed to share our fresh, home-grown garden produce with poor inner city families who are feeling to everyday impact of rising food and gas prices.

The program works like this: I am inviting neighborhoods, family, coworkers, and friends to share a little of their home garden harvest every two weeks, which I will bring to North Philadelphia to share with needy families struggling to make ends meet. Donated produce will be distributed to needy families through the Kensington Welfare Rights Union.

A small portion of Garden Share also is used to cook weekly vegetarian meals for the homeless and shelter-bound in Philadelphia.

Participants may add some extra plants to their garden designated for Garden Share, or simply share from what you normally grow. Any quantity is accepted gratefully.

I have a drop-off box at my house at 2932 Normandy Road. Please contact if you are interested in participating or if you have questions.

Thanks!
Rob

Hi Rob,

I am glad you posted this and you can count me in. I was going to e-mail you about the beginnings of the community garden project and veggie garden we have started this year at both Normandy Botanical Gardens and in the front yard of Chestnutwold Elementary. Both projects, one of which we acquired a grant of $500.00 for, are to be used for teaching and outreach into our community and the veggie proceeds are to be donated to needy or elderly folks. I'm going to get some pics up of all that I've been busy with in the last 3 months so you can view it here - been too busy for anything like this up to this point. The amount of produce that will come from these projects and my own home garden are going to be substantial.

This all sounds awesome!

Hey Bill,

Great efforts! I saw the raised beds the other day as my boys and I were taking a bike ride. Excellent educational and service program.

Thanks for your pledged support of Garden Share. Let's talk soon.

Best regards,
Rob

Hi Rob - we're at 807 Aubrey and my husband has a heaping amount of tomatoes, etc. that will be starting to be available in early to mid August.

This also coincides with our vacation so.....we'll be happy to share and would be happy to have someone harvest ripe stuff while we're away also.

You can reach me at work at 610-853-1404 and we'll set up details.

Diane W.
