Another Traffic Incident on Cricket Ave.

Saturday around 10:30 I was startled by a loud noise while watching "The Mist" on D.V.D. The Movie primary takes place in a Grocery Store. The loud noise unfortunately sounded like metal shelves crashing. oooo boy ...If I would have opened my front door, and it would had been foggy I may have stayed inside.

At the corner of Cricket and Normandy I saw a black pick-up truck on my neighbors sidewalk, and the stop sign broken off. I quickly went back inside and dialed 911. Then I walked down to the corner, and saw a gentleman standing by the driver's window, and someone else in the vehicle. I called out from across the street, and asked if anyone was hurt. Strangely he did not answer, but the driver was ackwardly attempting to get his truck in reverse. I then looked at the license plate, and decided it was best to back away. I walked back up to my house to check on my vehicle that was parked in the street. The driver may not have been able to turn a corner, but did manage to miss my car. Then two Haverford Police Cars had arrived. The gentleman that was at the window of the car must have been walking by on Cricket, because after he spoke to the police he walked up by my house. I then asked the question of the gentleman again.. this time he did respond...He's tanked was his response, and continue walking up the street. This is the third drunken driver crash on Cricket Ave. on either side of my house in recent years.

I did not like the ending of the Movie, but fortunately; this time once again, no one on Cricket Ave. was hurt. These events however are as scary as the Movie.

Thanks to the Haverford Police Force for responding so quickly so this gentleman was stopped before he could do anymore damage.

I definitely think this is

I definitely think this is something to bring up with Lt. Moore in the present or at the next Commissioner's meeting. We have an inordinately high number of Liquor Licensed establishments (6) in our SABA coverage area and if you include the establisments along the border areas within a block the number goes up to 9. For the amount of drinking and driving that I witness just over by my house I have always wondered why we do not see more DUI catches by the police being reported in the police blotter. The most statistically significant corridor in Haverford for DUI arrests is along West Chester Pike (WCP) mostly revolving around one place - Barnaby's.

We have way more action over here in Ardmore and I do think we should be communicating with Lt. Moore about it.

The first accident was

Soundman's picture

The first accident was caused by a neighbor just up the street.. just before lunch time he managed to crash into three cars, and would have hit ours as well, but a chain link fence stopped his car like a net. He was drinking at home.

The second one was a hit and run that crashed cars of two neighbors on either side of mine, but only scratched my car. So I am not sure where he or she came from or went to.

This one unfortunately I just saw the truck pulling into a driveway a few doors up the street. So my quess he had just left his home also...

We had a hit and run over

We had a hit and run over here on County Line Rd. I forget all of the folks who were included in that e-mail but I know I forwarded it to Commissioner Holmes and Lt. Moore. And, yes, as you describe, we have plenty of people(a culture) of drinkers who like to do it at home and then go driving.

I'm glad to hear you came out of all that activity unscathed. It definitely sounds like it is hitting to close to your home!!!

Within the first two years

Within the first two years of moving into Ardmore a very sad incident occurred on Ardmore Avenue around Berkley or Morris. There was a lady who was afraid of crossing Ardmore Ave. to get the paper from one of the boxes by the apartments. She uses to send someone for the paper. One day, she decided to go and get one for herself - I guess no one else could do it. That day she was hit and killed right there on Ardmore Avenue at about noon by a drunk driver who rode up onto the sidewalk. Mainline Life covered the story and I believe they reported she was about to move from this neighborhood. Maybe some of you remember it.
