I was thinking about a few links to add to our site. Oakmont Fire Company has a site which contains a significant amount of useful information. One feature is a Call Log so you can see just how many times they respond to emergencies in our neighborhood. http://www.oakmontfire.org/ Chestnutwold Elementary School - http://haverford.k12.pa.us/chestnutwold/ Haverford Township Civic Council - http://www.haverfordciviccouncil.org/ |

The call log is pretty
The call log is pretty interesting. I saw the call we all made about gas along County Line Rd - the gas was leaking for many months and could be smelled faintly but then the cold set in a it really got bad. PECO had been out in the early fall but never uncovered the source of the leak. Last month when the smell was so bad we all thought the block was going to ignite, well I guess they figured they should find the leak and repair it - it took them about three days to find it and make the repairs.
Also, very interesting to see how many calls are for fire alarms and and given the vast majority of calls are very short durations between time leaving the station and returning from my untrained eye it appears as if the majority of calls are false alarms. Again, I'm not trained enough to have an alternative answer but it does seem like it is a tremendous waste of resources - well, I guess it is the way it has to be - better to send out the truck and the manpower out in case their is a fire than not.
