  • Joining SABA as a member is now faster and easier than ever!
  • Volunteer opportunities have been updated
  • What's New on this site? - Don't visit the SABA site often? Check back on our "What's New?" page to see what has been added to the site.

After you've had a chance to take a look around the site, please fill out the poll and tell us how much you liked the new site.

If you spot anything that looks amiss, doesn't make any sense, or looks outright broken, feel free to drop us a line, or leave a comment on this post. Thanks!

Don't have much time to explore this right now, but (while I agree that some of the sugested changes would make it even better) what I see looks great!!

I do have one question and one suggestion:

Question: There was a suggestion at some point that we should have a website that would be used in conjunction with 'town watch' to report incidents to neighbors & police, etc. Is this going to be it, or is that still coming?

Suggestion: I could just be inept, but I found the 'set up & sign up' procedure to be a bit confusing. I made my account and filled in all the requested information, but couldn't sign in. None of those screens asked for or explained how to obtain a password so I (mistakenly as it turned out) assumed that passwords were optional and had to go back after the fact and fool around figuring out how to get one. I think that whole set up procedure could be made more self explainatory. "Steps: 1) enter personal info; 2) request temporary account; 3) check your email; 4) assign yourself a password; 5) log in and use system"
Ideally, steps 2 & 3 (as I wound up doing) could be eliminated, and after setting up the initial info, one would automatically be prompted for a password. Hopefully, it was there and I just somehow missed it. Also (and there is probably no way to control it from this end) when I asked for the password, Doug's email went to the spam folder on my yahoo email account. That was annoying, but minor.

I hope to have more time to look at this site over the weekend (looming deadlines until then), and will get back after that with any other issues I see. For now, I'm VERY impressed. Thanks Doug and everybody else who made this happen!

I have no knowledge of that, so it's definitely not going to be in this iteration of the website.

Could I put something like that in a future revision? Probably. But that's up to the rest of the SABA folks if they want to see it happen.

Actually, what happens is that when you sign up, the system emails you a temporary password. This way, you've verified that your email address is valid. It also helps cut down on abuse and spam. Also, having a valid email address provides the system with an address to send your password to if you forget it.

That being said, I'll see if there is anything I can do on the User Interface side of things to make it easier to sign up for an account here. Sticking out tongue

The issue of the Town Watch section is one of the things the blog could accomplish. If someone wants to post a blog about vandalism, graffiti, crime, or police reports read in the paper or from the police department's website; that occurred in our neighborhood, the blog could serve that purpose. You certainly would not want to use this website to report to the police. Those type of contacts should be made directly to the police department. Any member could start a blog on this topic, and others could reply. If it became a significant issue I imagine a forum to separate this topic out could be developed.

That would be awesome. If there was sufficient interest, I could easily set up a section of the site for this, just like what we have with the photos.
