I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend. Once again, the SABA 4th of July Celebration was a terrific success. So many people came out to enjoy our biggest and longest running tradition. Of course, an event like that could never happen without the help of volunteers who generously gave some of their time. Of the many people who helped, I want to specifically thank Ed Magargee, Rick Pelena, Jason Guynes, Erica Keagy, John Francone, Diane Wilder, and Alaine Plante. Ed coordinated the entire event, making sure we had all the equipment, food, permits, and help that we needed. He has coordinated this event for many years now and we thank him for all his effort and commitment. Ed will be looking to pass the torch to a new coordinator for next year but has offered to provide the guidance and all of his records and organization to the next coordinator. Perhaps you would like to take the helm next year. Rick coordinated the field events with his faithful pack of judges. For many of the kids, this is the highlight of the day and they clearly enjoyed themselves. While Rick is stepping down as president of the Haverford AC (Athletic Club) after MANY years of service, we hope we can convince him to keep helping with the 4th of July. Jason was our emcee extraordinaire, using his voice and his personality to guide us through the day from one event or announcement to another. Erica, with her understated manner, kept us organized throughout the day. She recorded the results of all the contests and ensured that everyone got the prizes they earned. John was instrumental in arranging for the food for the day through Haverford College. Diane and Alaine made sure the food tent flowed smoothly to keep us well fed and well hydrated throughout the day. There were many other volunteers who did an amazing job at this event. I want you all to know that even though I might not have mentioned your name, your effort and contribution to the day was greatly appreciated and made the event the success that it was. Thank you everyone and I hope you all enjoyed it. |
