We have selected Saturday, May 8 for this year's spring planting. This is one of our two most substantial events for further improving the landscaping and beauty of Normandy Park. I think the spring planting ends up feeling more fulfilling because you can watch the fruits of your effort grow and blossom throughout the rest of the outdoor season into the fall.
As in the past, the success of this and the beauty of the park depends on you. We need your volunteer effort for planting all the new additions to the park. Also. most everything we plant comes as a donation from neighbors. So, please take a look around your yard to see what plants are ready for thinning or you have decided to replace with something new. Then, don't simply discard those old plants. Bring them to Normandy Park on May 8 to make your own, personal contribution to this pocket park that has been such a centerpiece for the community.
At the same time as the planting, we will hold our first Art in the Park event. This will be an art and craft show of local vendors who will set up tables in the Normandy Park house. Since this event is on the day before Mother's Day, it is a great opportunity to get a special gift for that special mother in your life.
ART IN THE PARK
Are you artistic? Are you interested in building a tradition that will support our neighborhood organization? Jean LaVassaur has volunteered to plan and manage a showcase of local artisans work to take place on Saturday, May 8, the day before Mothers Day in conjunction with our Spring Planting Day at Normandy Park. The cost to participate is minimal- $10 if you bring your own table or $15 if you need to use one of the limited number of tables in the Park house.
The requirements are simple
-you must live in the SABA neighborhood
-you can only display & sell arts and crafts that you made yourself
-no more than 2 artists with the same type of goods to sell will be accepted- so first come first served
As I said- we hope to grow this into major annual event and a major fundraiser for SABA. The first year might be a little lean and we will be counting on our neighbors to be our best customers, but we have high hopes for our ART in the Park. Those neighborhood artists and crafts persons who sign up this year will be given preference for a table next year.
Say you’re not crafty? Well in addition to buying your Mothers Day gifts from this show, we’d like to set aside one table for selling baked goods. If your skills are in the kitchen, we’d appreciate any goodies you may want to donate for sale.
If you’d like to be a part of the first annual Art in the Park at Normandy park on May 8 from 10- 3, email Jean LaVassaur at JJML42@YAHOO.COM with
