The Music and Planting event

The Music and Planting event is now behind us so we have one more week before the SABA 5k next Sunday Oct 11.

Online registration is still available and will remain open until midnight on Oct 11, the day of the event. On-site registration will be available. The t-shirts have been ordered and I have heard they look great. The first 100 people to register will get t-shirts so don't miss out on getting a piece of the most exclusive fashion line for the fall. The registration fee is the same for early and on-site registration but we encourage you to sign up now to guarantee you get a shirt and so you have one less thing to worry about that morning. The link to online registration is www.runtheday.com/cgi-bin/register.cgi?r_id=587. You can view the course map through a link on the SABA website www.sabanews.org.

I know what many of you are thinking, "There's no way I could do a 5k." Let me tell you, I had that same thought for many years and was intimidated to try, even if the event was raising money for a cause I really supported. When I finally took the plunge I found out that you can make this as competitive or comfortable as you want. Yes, some people will run the course trying to win or to be the fastest in their age group. But, many run, jog, and/or walk the course with no intention of competing with others. They are just out there to enjoy themselves and to support the cause. Also, remember, this event includes a 1 mile fun run/walk. The course for that is not much more than walking from Normandy Park to Chestnutwold and back. So, whether you are a die-hard racer or a couch potato who cares about the neighborhood, register and come out to the SABA 5k to support your neighborhood association, your community, and your neighbors.

Of course, no community event can be successful without the support of volunteers. We have several volunteers to help with the registration table. Currently, we have a handful of volunteers to be safety marshals at the intersections and turn around points on the course. Based on the course and traffic patterns at the various intersections (some are busier than others), we need between 12 and 19 safety marshals. Of course, more would be even better. Please let me know if you are available to help with this. The 1 mile run/walk starts at 9:00 and the 5k starts at 9:20. The last participants will likely cross the finish line between 40 and 60 minutes later so the safety marshal at that last intersection will be done by 10:30 or sooner. Marshals positioned earlier in the course will be done even earlier. So, volunteering to help with this event will not take a lot of your time but will make a big difference in the success of the event.

I look forward to see you on Sunday Oct 11th for an enjoyable morning with our first 5k and 1 mile event.

Thank you to all of the

Thank you to all of the organizers, who did a great job with this race. One question: does anyone know where the results of the race are posted on the internet? I know that a website was mentioned where results the would be posted, but I didn't write it down and none of my google searches have proven fruitful. Thanks!
