WEATHER UPDATE: We have been keeping an eye on the weather forecast for Sunday evening - as it stands right now, the event WILL go on as planned tomorrow evening, and we hope to see you at Normandy Park. Should something change, it will be posted here. ************************************ 2nd Annual SABA Luminaria Night and Normandy Park Holiday Event THIS Sunday, December 21, 2008 Beginning at 5pm: Light luminaria at your homes throughout the SABA neighborhood For details on how to purchase luminaria bags and candles and what to look forward to for our gathering at the park, please see the event flyer (click on the link below) as well as the e-mail message below. With any questions, please feel free to contact Johanna Kulp at johanna.kulp@gmail.com. Event Flyer: We hope to see many of you on Sunday evening! Hi everyone, SABA will be having its second annual Luminaria night on Sunday, December 21. That is the day of the winter solstice when we have the fewest hours of daylight so it is often a traditional day for holding a celebration of light. Luminaria are paper bags with lighted candles that give off a beautiful glow. As we did last year, we will sell sets of 10 candles and 10 luminaria bags for $5. They are now available for easy pick-up in Ardmore. Please e-mail Diane Wilder at dianewilder@mymortgagepartners.com or Johanna Kulp at johanna.kulp@gmail.com for information on pick-up location and payment. They will be available first come-first serve. We ordered 1000 candles and bags (100 sets). [...] Please note that you should weight down the bags with sand or kitty litter to prevent them from blowing over. If it is a windy night, you should probably use a little extra to hold the bags in place. Also on that night, like last year, we will have a holiday gathering at Normandy Park. As you can see from the details on the flier, we expect to have a lot of fun at the park with caroling, hot chocolate and other drinks, and a candy cane hunt for the kids. There will also be a cookie contest so bring your best recipe to see if yours are judged the tastiest and see what you win. So, whether you choose to light luminaria at your house, join us at the park, or both, I hope you enjoy a celebration of light as we look forward to the days starting to get a little longer. Happy Holidays, Bill Gardner |
