Normandy Park Update
|
|
We made some exciting progress at Normandy Park over the past week. We had three flowering cherry trees donated and planted by the Rotary Club. These were a donation from the Rotary Club of Tokyo, Japan as part of a program of reciprocal tree donations between the United States and Japan that dates back almost 100 years. The Rotary Club of Ardmore was kind enough to arrange for this donation and the planting. A commemorative plaque will be installed and there will be a dedication made during our spring planting event. Also, this weekend several volunteers met at the park on Saturday. Among the accomplishments we made, we cleared out the sunflower bed in outfield of the t-ball field, weeded the garden beds at the corner entrances on Cricket, and removed a small portion of hedge to expand and prepare a garden bed at Cricket and Normandy. In the spring, we will plan a large planting event. We will announce the date with enough notice so neighbors who wish to donate plants from their yards to the park will have time to prepare. We also anticipate ordering more benches and picnic tables for the park by using funds donated to SABA and a grant we were awarded from the state. It will be another big step forward for our little park. Please take a moment to stop by and walk through the park to see the improvements and to enjoy this special area of green space that was preserved and now improved through our own community efforts.
